Dorian Yates Bodybuilder

Dorian Yates Blood & Guts Tribute Page

Dorian Yates Picture

Dorian Yates is without a doubt the most successful professional bodybuilder we have seen next to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman. Dorian won Mr. Olympia 6 times in a row and his nickname of "The Shadow" is exactly where everyone found themselves between 1994 and 1997, he ruled the bodybuilding world.

Dorian was a farm boy who lost his father when he died of a heart attack when Dorian was 13. But he only started pumping iron when he landed up in prison, he was a Skinhead and was in gangs before he discovered the rewards of training and eating right.

Dorian won 15 times in 17 professional bodybuilding competitions that he entered which just proves that he was a cut above the rest of us mortals.

Dorian's contribution to bodybuilding will be felt for a long time. He brought a different but very scientific an extremely precise planning to his bodybuilding that later revolutionized the sport completely.

Dorian Yates Workout

Dorian has often commented and given free advice online using forums and other social media. He gives enlightened advice on training and is a good example is what he says about using heavy weights "the weight you can bench is pretty much irrelevant".

He explains the form and technique that you use to train with has nothing to do with the weight that you are lifting. He insists that the only way to increase the size of your muscle is to first learn how to isolate that muscle group so that you can focus only on one muscle.

Dorian did warm-up sets of 10 to 12 reps before moving on to only one working set of 6 to 12 reps to failure. A typical chest training routine for Dorain would be the following: (* = warm-up first as mentioned above)

Incline barbell presses 1* 12
1* 10
1* 8
1 6-8

Hammer Strength seated bench presses 1* 10 1 6-8

Incline dumbbell flyes 1* 10 1 6-8

Cable crossovers 1 10-12

This looks quite simple but it all has to do with execution and how these exercises are done. Dorian always emphasized the vital necessity to isolate and make the movement work for you and not the other way around.
